City of St. Augustine Beach 2019 Arbor Day: Our Sustainable Future Celebration

The City of St. Augustine Beach would like to sincerely thank those who participated in and volunteered at the 2019 Arbor Day: Our Sustainable Future Celebration. The City was able to distribute numerous trees, snacks, and reusable bags to the public free of charge and educate the public about environmental issues that affect our coastal community. The community groups who were able to attend and present exceptional educational exhibits include: Anastasia State Park, Boy Scouts of America Troop 345, Face Painting by Shauna, Friends of A1A Scenic & Historic Coastal Byway, GTM Research Reserve, Home Depot, Matanzas Riverkeeper, North Florida Coastal Caretakers, Sea Oats Chapter Florida Native Plant Society, St. Augustine Alligator Farm, St. Augustine Aquarium, St. Johns Beekeepers Association, St. Johns County Parks & Rec, St. Johns County Public Library, VyStar Credit Union, and Whitney Laboratory for Marine Bioscience.

The St. Augustine Beach Tree Board and Beautification Committee hosted a ceremony that included the Boy Scouts Troop 345 presenting the colors, Ms. Walker Mullin from Flagler College singing the national anthem, a poetry and poster contest, and the Environmental Stewardship Awards. The poetry contest was open to Pedro Menendez High School Students and those winners are: Samantha Brunjes, Jack Saullo, and Isabel Roppolo. The poster contest was open to the 5th grade class at R.B. Hunt Elementary and those winners are: Lani Rei Decker, Emry Hogan, and Gianna Wihbey.

The Environmental Stewardship Awards are presented to individuals and businesses who reduce environmental impact, conserve resources, enhance ecosystems, and restore impacted natural resources. The individual awards were presented to Captain Adam Morley, Jessica Gott, and Attorney Jane West. Music By The Sea – Free Concerts at The St. Augustine Beach Pier.

Wednesday, May 15th, kicked off the 17th season of Music By The Sea, a free family-friendly concert series brought to you by The St. Augustine Beach Civic Association at the St. Augustine Beach Pier Park and Pier Pavilion. The Music By The Sea concert series runs through September 11th, and includes 19 different bands featuring music from multiple genres of music including Jazz, Blues, Classic Rock, Country, Disco, Pop and Latin.

In addition to great music and a fun crowd, there will be food available for purchase each week (usually less than $10) by one of our local restaurants served at 6:00 p.m. The music starts at 7:00 p.m. and runs until 9:30 p.m. For more information about parking, what you can bring and other questions about the weekly concerts, please visit www.freebeachconcerts.com. Arts and Crafts Festivals coming to The St. Augustine Beach Pier!

Come out to the St. Augustine Beach Pier Saturday from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. & Sunday 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. (February 16th & 17th and March 9th & 10th) for the St. Augustine Beach Arts & Crafts Festival.

This fun, free event features handmade arts and crafts by local, regional, and national artists, along with live music and lots of delicious food. The festival attracts artists and crafters from all over the country to showcase their work just steps from the beach at the St. Johns County Pier. Vacationers can enjoy browsing everything from handmade jewelry and ceramics to stained glass and fine artwork. With a variety of food and drink for sale, as well as vendors with natural plants, herbs, fruits, and veggies, the Arts and Crafts Festival is a complete experience for the whole family.

The “Taste of the Beach” to be held at the St. Augustine Beach Pier on Saturday, September 23rd

The 12th annual “Taste of the Beach”, presented by the St. Augustine Beach Civic Association, returns to the St. Augustine Beach Pier and Pier Park on Saturday, September 23rd from 12:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.  13 local restaurants will be competing in the categories of Best Appetizer, Best Entree, Best Dessert, Judges Choice, People’s Choice and Best Decorated Booth.  There will be plenty of food and beverages available by purchasing tickets at a cost of $1.00 each.  To learn more about the event click HERE. Music By The Sea kicks off its 16 season at The St. Augustine Beach Pier Park

The 16th season of Music By The Sea, held by The St. Augustine Beach Civic Association begins on Wednesday, May 23rd at The St. Augustine Beach Pier Park.  This free event is held each Wednesday starting at 6:00 p.m. and runs through the month of September with weekly concerts and available food and beverages for purchase.

After being cancelled last week due to inclement weather, The Music By The Sea event will kick-off this week with the sounds of 80’s cover band Slang, and food sponsored and provided by Scooby Q BBQ.  The event will also use this Wednesday as an opportunity to support local artist and volunteer Paul Slava who has a new liver but still faces more challenges that include large medical bills. Money collected through beverage purchases will go to assist Paul with his expenses.
